Next week Tuesday I’ll go on a trip that I’m looking forward to already from the beginning when I came here. I am going to Lapland. It’s THE trip to make when you visit Finland. It’s like the icing on the cake.
I actually hoped that it would get really cold, like -20 degrees Celsius. That would be a temperature that I’m probably not going to experience in the first 5 years in my life. At least, not in the Netherlands. But when I looked up the weather forecast, it said that it’s only going to be -7. It’s not really cold, but still a little bit. At least there will be snow. Not the 1 meter of snow that I had in my mind, but maybe that wasn’t realistic for the beginning of December.
We’re going to Rovaniemi, the town where Santa Claus lives, we’re going to do a snow shoe hike, we’re hopefully going to spot the northern lights, we’re going to ride a snowmobile (finally I can drive something like a car again!) and we’re going on a husky tour.
I’m so excited to go there! I think it’s going to be a one in a life time experience.
By the way, I heard that the people in Lapland are a bit of a ‘country’ itself. They have their own dialect/language which Finnish people don’t understand. I didn’t know that.
Well, enjoy reading this too excited post while I’m thinking about what to bring in my suitcase : )
