Being friendly

'Friendly' is a word that I would describe neither Fins, nor Dutch people with. Before reading, keep in mind that this is a really generalized post.

Fins are quite reserved at the beginning. When you ask them something at an event, they will answer and sometimes they will continue the conversation. But most of the times they need a few more meetings or conversations before you really can get a conversation with Fins.

When you talk to Dutch people, I wouldn't say that they're friendly directly in the beginning. When you'd ask them for the way to the supermarket, they'll tell you the way, but they won't start to talk about what you're doing in the Netherlands as a foreigner.

But on the other hand, the most of the people in the Netherlands will greet you when you pass them at the sidewalk. We will also wave to a car driver when he stops for you in front of a pedestrian crossing.

Another thing that really strikes me, is that almost no one of the Fins greets the bus driver. Most of the people in the Netherlands do, and they'll also say 'thank you' when they leave the bus.
