A hooray for the pilot

When my roommate and I came to Finland, we flew with the air company ‘Air Baltic’. It’s a Latvian air company. When you’ll fly with a Dutch air company, everyone will give an applause when the airplane touches the ground after lands. This is a way to show that everyone is happy that we arrived safely and to thank the pilot and the flight attendants.
So, when we touched the ground, we wanted to clap, but no one else did. So, we were really doubting whether we should start clapping or not. We didn’t do it because we felt awkward.
When I’m typing this, my friend asks me why we don’t give an applause to the bus driver when he drives us. Actually, that’s a good question. He’s also doing a good job, right?
