In this post, I’ll tell you what my expectations were when I came to Finland. I’m not going to tell whether these expectations have come true, the outcome will follow in another post.
First of all, I expected a lot from the experience of living on my own. I still live with my parents and sisters in the Netherlands, and in Finland I would get my own apartment. I'd share this apartment with someone from my school, so I already knew my roommate. I expected that I would like it to do my own groceries, to decide for myself what and when I wanted to eat, not taking into account the rest of the family, etc.
I also expected that I’d like to make many international contacts. 7 people from my home university also came to Finland, so I always had people to fall back on. But I’d live in an apartment complex for exchange students, I’d go to a Finnish school and I’d meet exchange students during trips and events.
In part 2 of ‘expectations’ I’ll tell you more about my expectations.
